One Truck in an Uncle's Lot.
35+ and Counting.
Shortline Moving was founded in 2015 by Red River Métis entrepreneur Alexander Hupé. Still Winnipeg. Still Métis. Still moving.
The Story
Alex Hupé started Shortline with a summer job — local residential moves, one truck parked in his uncle's lot. He left post-secondary to pursue it full-time in 2015. Not because it was safe. Because he believed in it.
Over the next decade, that one truck became five, then twenty, then thirty-five. The uncle's lot became a 50,000 square foot LEED-certified warehouse at 47 Gomez Street. The part-time summer crew became 105 full-time employees.
In 2020, Riley George joined as partner. They built out the logistics division — third-party logistics, warehousing, temperature-controlled transport, and winter road trucking to remote Indigenous communities in Northern Manitoba.
The Louis Riel Capital Corporation (LRCC), an MMF affiliate, provided critical capital and marketing support after Shortline's third year in operation. That investment helped Shortline scale into the full-service operation it is today.
In 2024, when wildfire evacuations hit northern Manitoba communities, Shortline mobilized vehicles and drivers to help. That's who we are.

By the Numbers
Our Métis Identity
Shortline is a registered Red River Métis business — provincially and federally. This isn't a certification we pursue for contracts (though it helps with that too). It's who Alexander Hupé is, and it shapes how we operate.
We hire from the Métis community. We partner with the MMF. We've supported the Michif Manor fundraiser. We run supplies to northern Indigenous communities on winter roads. We show up during evacuations.
